My 3 yr old stepson has thrown fits about going to his mom’s house since he was literally an infant. She DOES neglect him and this has been witnessed firsthand by most of her family members, who said they would vouch for us while in court if we want custody. First off,her family has been begging her for YEARS to get a mental evaluation-she has all symptoms of bipolar disorder, yet refuses to get one because she’s afraid she will lose the child. Second, she has had her mother, who is a RN, get PRESCRIPTION medication for him from her work for what she “thinks” is wrong with the child on SEVERAL occasions. These prescription meds DO NOT have the child’s name on them ANYWHERE, but they DO have an RX # on them.Lastly, she does VERY innapropriate things in front of the child (he has been making his stuffed animals perform oral sex on him, very realistically, since he was about 2yrs old, moving their heads up and down on his privates!).There is PLENTY more to tell-does any1 think its enough?
I have contacted CPS when the neglect began-and they sent her a letter in the mail-nothing else! She then submitted it to her lawyer as evidence that I was “harassing” her and refused to sign their divorce papers for 10 months over it!
During the divorce, my husband (then he was just my boyfriend, of course) asked his lawyer if there was ANY way to get custody-he told him absolutely not unless she’s a crackhead or beating him and leaving bruises!
The lawyer said that in Ohio, it is virtually impossible to get a child from their mother-no matter WHAT the situation!
I have ALSO contacted the Board of Nursing about her mother-with NO responses! E-mail AND calls! She STILL has her job!
That was just the tip of the iceburg! He also talks about how he has a big “wanker” all the time (his mom must have taught him that, too!) and is allowed to say every curse word imaginable at his mom’s house-which is totally NOT ok when he’s here! Also, just the other day, he was being mean and yelling at his daddy-so I asked him why he was being mean to daddy…his reply? “Because my mommy said so!”..I can’t even begin to tell you everything this psycho has done, it would take FOREVER! My point is, even after ALL of these instances piling up day by day, we are still being told that there’s no way to get custody of him until he’s like 11 or 12 and can tell a judge what his mom does to him and in front of him! WHICH he already does NOW! But we’re still told he’s too young to believe! We are at our wit’s end with the whole situation!
Can a non-residential parent get custody of a YOUNG child that protests going to the residential parents home?
How can 7-counties give a diagnoses of bipolar when my child hasn’t been tested for this?
My son is 5yrs old and he has central nervous system dysfunction and sensory processing disorder .He is very aggressive and he might have aspberger’s. We still r in process of testing. His school suggested I get involved with 7 counties .School thought he was ADD. Which he’s not nor is he ADHD. So why treat him for bipolar?
What would you think of a mother with bipolar disorder?
I was diagnosed with Bipolar 2 disorder in between the births of my first and second child. I was diagnosed and put on medication. You would never guess I had it. Before I was medicated, my only symptoms were times of over-productivity and one or two depressive states that I stayed in for a while. But after the medication, all is well.
Anyways, when I decided to try for my second, a close friend of mine immediately labeled me as selfish, saying that putting another child through this was a terrible thing to do. My doctor said I would be fine off of the medicine for the length of the pregnancy, since I’m not a severe case.
I had Keegan and actually stayed off the medicine for six months afterward until my husband noticed me having hypomanic episode (I cried often and had much more of a sexual drive that normal, sorry if that’s TMI)
When we decided for our third child, and stopped the medicine again. Julia is seven months, and I am pregnant again in my first trimester (I know, it happened fast. I have to say it was so unplanned, but such a blessing).
We’ve decided to stop having children after this birth and put me back on my medication. On it and off it, I have never harmed my children or anyone around me, I just have the occasional cry or hypermanic moment.
Was it selfish of me to have children? Do any other mothers have bipolar disorder or anything else that could possibly affect you as a mother?
Well, of course. I never had that urge, unlike some people, to slack off of my medicine, because I knew better. It’s weird. I’m amazed I was able to stay off of it with my second pregnancy. If I couldn’t, I would have never gotten pregnant with my third and fourth.

If you have Bipolar Disorder can you take medicine and still become pregnant?
I just recently married and I want to have children right away. I tried going off my medicine and turned very manic and my family had to intervene and help me back on my meds. I truly want to have a baby but dont want to risk my health. please help!!
When it comes down to it, am I a bad person…?
my parents were divorced when I was 3 and I was raised by my dad. My mother was never around and when she was, everything was always about her. We all knew she had some type of mental problem, was in and out of the hospital, on 5 million different medications etc. We just never got to know each other, we have no relationship. I’m OK with that part. I understand she couldn’t handle 3 kids and a husband…fast forward to today. She is diagnosed with bipolar and personality disorder. She is currently in a manic phase, just released from a clinic and the phone call I get from her is “Hi honey, I’m back home now, and they say I’m NOT bipolar” ergo: she isn’t going to continue the treatment they set her up on. I talked with the clinic, in group sessions she owned her disease, but on her own she wants to continue to deny it. i know this is the nature of the beast. i guess what I’m asking is…should i feel guilty because I’ve decided I am done with her? I cannot help her when she won’t even help herself. None of us children really want anything to do with her and she is basically all alone and on her own. Am I heartless?
Could my child be bipolar?
The father of my child suffers from bipolar disorder and while both of his parents do not have it I’m worried my daughter may become bipolar later in life. She’s only three years old now so I’m sure that’s too young to even look for signs but does anyone know how great the chances are of having it if one of your parents have it.
I have asked my child’s pediatrician but I wanted to hear what people with bipolar experience had to say.
do people with bipolar disorder sometimes runaway?
my wife left 8 days ago and we have not heard from her since. we have been together for 20 years and have 3 children. lately her bipolar condition has been getting better and i have been getting better at helping her deal with it. our relationship and her relationship with her kids has gotten better, so why would she leave? she left me a note saying “chad i’m sorry and i love you i just need some time to myself , idont want to be with anyone dont worry about me i’m o.k. i love you” she wrote that in ink , then on the bottom of the page in pencil she wrote “it’s not you it’s me! i love you”. so what i’m asking everybody is that normal bipolar behavior to just want to get away from the ones she loves the most? please help me!
to kj, my wife was diagnosed about 3 months ago . but she did not tell me about it , i found out through a casuel conversation with her mother. since then i have been going to her doctor with her and trying to understand what shes going through. weve been together for 20 years and i would do whatever it takes to get her back. i support her 110 percent so get the facts before you run your mouth. and by the way she is also an alcoholic so shes dealing with alot.
Would you say my husband is controlling? I have a bipolar child (19 years) from my first marriage. He is?
very almost paranoid in going out and finding a job. He does not have a drivers license so it would have to be within walking distance. I have taken him on job interviews. Never gets a call back for an interview. I know it is disappointing to him and he would rather stay in his protective world (his room). My husband says that I have control over him. He’s 19, I know he lives in my house and I do get on him to go out and get a job. The problem is he’s not always right in the mind and very difficult to deal with. My husband says that it bothers him even though he has nothing to do with him and they have gotten into fights before and both were arrested. He says that because I’m not doing something about him it is making him more distant to me. He talks to other people and when I talk to him he walks out of the room while I’m mid sentence. Our child together always tells me that he talks to other women at the ballpark when I’m not around. I think he is being abusive to me.

3 Years Old…Bipolar Disorder?
This is really messed up, i need some unbiased opinions on this one…
My boyfriends neice is three years old, and extremely undisciplined. let me give you a little background before i get into it…Her mother was abused as a child, and everytime the father tried to discipline her ie spanking or yelling, the mother would freak out and assume he was going to start abusing her. They recently got a divorce, child is living with the mother (continuing to do whatever she wants and get away with it) and the mothers new boyfriend whom the child is told to call him her new daddy. needless to say, with her lack of discipline, on top of a custody battle, at three years old, she can be a handfull.
Well, recently she has been acting up in preschool. Throwing fits, and even going as far as hitting and biting the teacher, which is something we’ve been told she does to her mother at home (never does this around her dad, i know because i spend alot of time with her) after the fourth time being called and told that her child has gotten in trouble, the mother decides to take her to a psychiatrist.
They spent ten minutes in the psychiatrists office, and like any other three year old, she started throwing a fit. She wanted to go home, her mother said she couldn’t. Well, she hit her mother, right there infront of the doctor. Seeing this, the doctor came to the conclusion (after spending all but ten minutes with her mind you) that this innocent three year old child is bipolar.
Now this doctor prescribed her a bipolar medacation called resperdone…and i really don’t believe that you can really say a three year old is bipolar. i’m sure the doctor doesn’t know the backround of the child, because it is very clear to me why she behaves the way she does.
any thoughts, opinions, or advice on this will be greatly appriciated, as i am at a loss for words, and completely in disbelief that this could happen.
How can I cope with my bipolar disorder?
It seems so surreal sometimes. I know that it is (real) though because my doc diagnosed it and all the descriptions of it fit me to a tee. It changes all the time and everyday. It’s like trying to fight an enemy you can’t see, or trying to lasso a tornado. I am married with 3 children and it is very hard on them to see me ill all the time. Consistency is always what they say will help. But by its very nature the illness makes you chronically inconsistent! How do you cope when you’re incapable of consistency?
