My sister Hailee turned 18 last month. She is absolutely wild. She already has 3 young kids with her boyfriend- and she told us last night that she’s expecting another! My mum and dad are in despair. She is always leaving the kids with them and going out clubbing, coming home drunk etc. Also, a few months ago, she went through a phase of trying to seduce my husband (then my fiance). She and her boyfriend are always going off to places without telling us-sometimes for a couple of days! We all agree that she needs to grow up and take responsibility for her children. I did help out with the kids a lot when they were first born but now it is impossible for me as I am now a mother myself. No doubt this new arrival will be dumped on my parents aswell. We’re all at our wits end! This is not the kind of behavior you would expect from a normal person. Do you think she could be bipolar? She really is quite off the rails…

this is rather manic behavior, but bipolar also involves periods of depression. if she’s having both then it could be possible.

Sounds like mania, does she have depression as well?
Even if she doesnt, she could still be bipolar, sometimes, an episode can last years :/
She may just be an irresponsible young woman though
Its hard to tell, maybe talk to a counsellor and ask what they think

I doubt she is bipolar from what you have described, it sounds very much that she is just irresponsible and is acting this way because she doesn’t want to live up to the fact that she is a mother of 3 and can’t act this way anymore. However, the only person who can diagnose your sister (if there is anything to diagnose) is a mental health professional.
