To ”teach” mankind a lesson, he calls on floods and tornadoes and crashes planes to the ground in merciless raging fury. But then he apparently becomes kind enough to ”miraculously” save the odd child from an inevitable result of his own actions.
How can mankind trust in a God which holds such erratic behavioural patterns? Could it be God suffers from bipolar disorder?

Who’s to say occasional floods, tornadoes and crashes are all that bad. Given how hostile the rest of the universe is, it doesn’t seem so bad.

No he doesn’t and God doesn’t crash planes, people do. I’m sure if the sole survivor had been your child you’d be singing a different tune right now.
